The Education Ministry has ordered the Institute of Technical Innovations and Communications (ITIC), the only private university, to temporarily shut down while the ministry checks its documents and activities. The ITIC filed a suit in court, which allows it to ignore the order until the court case is resolved.
The Education Ministry said originally it had requested that the ITIC not accept new students while the review was being done, but since the institute ignored that order, the ministry ordered the complete shutdown.
This is not the first time the government has harassed this institution of democracy. The government forced it to change its original name, which was University of International Relations. It changed its name to Humanitarian University, which the government forced it to change to the current name.
The real reason for the shutdown of the school is its progressive teaching on democracy and freedom. Many opposition leaders serve as professors as well.
